Why Was My Reddit Post Removed?
A missing or removed post has several possible explanations: community moderators, AutoModerator, a community filter, Reddit’s own enforcement, or a posting requirement your account does not meet yet. This guide helps you read the evidence you can actually see and choose a proportionate next step.

A Reddit post may be removed by community moderators, AutoModerator, a community filter, or Reddit’s platform systems. A post may also be held for review or fail a community posting requirement. First, identify what changed
Work through these checks in order before drawing a conclusion. Each step narrows the possibilities using evidence you can actually see.

Confirm the state
Is the post absent from the community feed, explicitly marked removed, awaiting review, deleted by you, or accompanied by a Reddit inbox notice? Each state points to different evidence.

Check the scope
Is the problem limited to one post or one subreddit, or can the account no longer vote, post, comment, or chat across Reddit? Scope is what separates a content decision from an account-level restriction.

These columns are plausible categories, not confirmed causes. An absent post alone is not enough to identify who acted or why. Look for an explicit Reddit notice, removal reason, or moderator explanation before treating a cause as confirmed.
Common community-level reasons

Format and flair requirements
Some communities require flair, specific title formats, question templates, or submission through a recurring thread. When the removal reason points to one of these requirements, the issue may be fixable.
Account age or karma requirements
Some communities set minimum account age or karma before posting. A requirement like this is one possible reason a new user’s post does not appear.
Community filters
Some communities use optional filters informed by account-behavior and establishment signals. A filter is community-controlled and is not itself proof of a Reddit Rules violation.
Promotional context
Communities can restrict self-promotion to designated threads or disallow it entirely.
Moderator judgment in context
Even when a post appears to follow the written rules, moderators may judge it off-topic, duplicative, or unhelpful in context. Moderators interpret their own community’s rules.
What to do next
1. Correct an obvious issue
If the removal reason or the community rules point to a fixable problem — missing flair, wrong format, a missing detail — fix it in how you post next, or resubmit only as the rules permit.
2. Allow review time
If the post may be filtered or awaiting review, do not resubmit it. Give moderators time, and check whether the community documents how long review usually takes.
3. Ask one concise ModMail question
When no explanation is visible and the community’s rules invite questions, message the moderators once, politely — for example, to ask which rule applied. Then wait for a reply.
4. Use the official appeal path for Reddit decisions
When a Reddit notice says content violated the Reddit Rules, follow the appeal instructions in that notice rather than subreddit ModMail. If the notice says the account is locked for security, follow the password-reset or recovery steps it provides.
5. Adjust future participation
Re-read the community’s rules and posting requirements before your next contribution, and route future conversations deliberately so you spend effort where a reply is actually welcome.

Post removal is not the same as an account ban
A removed post, a subreddit ban, and an account suspension are three different things handled through different channels. Keep them distinct every time one could be confused with another.
A removed post
A content-level action. It can come from community moderators or from Reddit, and it affects that piece of content — not necessarily the account.
A subreddit ban
A community-level restriction. Moderators can ban an account from their community, but they cannot suspend the account sitewide or delete its content from Reddit.
An account suspension or ban
A platform-level restriction on voting, posting, commenting, and chat across Reddit. Reddit’s notice explains the action and how to appeal it.
If your account can still vote, post, comment, and chat elsewhere on Reddit, that points away from a platform-level ban. Reddit may still have acted on one piece of content, so check the post and your inbox before assuming it was only a community decision.
