Improve opportunity quality
The first project configuration is a starting point, not a final answer. The best way to improve lead quality is to review real opportunities, identify the patterns behind good and poor matches, and adjust one signal at a time.
Outcome: You will know how to reduce noise, find more useful conversations, and keep your project aligned with the customers you want to help.
Start with review decisions
Before changing settings, review a small group of opportunities in the Posts and Comments inboxes. For each item, note why it was useful or irrelevant.
Look for repeated patterns:
- Which customer problems produce the best conversations?
- Which words or phrases appear in useful opportunities?
- Which keywords repeatedly attract unrelated discussions?
- Are particular subreddits or authors consistently off-topic?
This gives you evidence for a focused change.
Make one focused adjustment at a time, then review the resulting opportunities to see what improved.
Make the project context specific
In Project settings → General, keep the product description current and specific. It should explain:
- who the product is for;
- the problem it helps solve;
- the category or workflow it supports; and
- the situations where a Reddit conversation is likely to be relevant.
For example, “software for teams” is too broad to guide useful qualification. Describing the team type, workflow, and problem creates a clearer signal.
Update the description when your positioning, target customer, or primary use case changes. You can also generate a fresh starting description from the product URL, then review and edit it before saving.
Use customer language in keywords
In Project settings → Keywords, manage separate keyword sets for posts and comments. Add terms your customers would naturally use when they describe a problem, evaluate options, or ask for help.
Useful keyword themes include:
- pain points and recurring tasks;
- category and workflow terms;
- comparison or alternative language; and
- phrases that indicate an active search for a solution.
Avoid using only your own product vocabulary. People on Reddit often describe a problem without using the category name that appears on your website.
Keyword inspiration can suggest additional ideas, but treat every suggestion as a draft. Add it only if you can explain why it should surface the customer conversations you care about.

When the inbox is too noisy
Noise usually means that one or more signals are too broad.
Try these changes in order:
- Identify the keyword shared by several false positives.
- Replace a generic word with a more specific customer phrase, or remove it.
- Clarify the project description if the false positives come from the wrong audience or use case.
- Use the Block list for a subreddit or author that is consistently irrelevant.
Review a few examples before blocking a source. A consistent pattern helps you keep the block list focused on sources that are not useful for the project.
When there are too few opportunities
Start by checking whether your signals are too narrow or too close to internal product language.
Try adding one focused term at a time:
- a customer-described version of the problem;
- a related workflow or job-to-be-done; or
- a comparison phrase that reflects how people evaluate solutions.
Then review the resulting opportunities before expanding further. Adding broad single-word terms may increase volume quickly, but it often creates more noise than useful conversations.
New opportunities also depend on relevant Reddit activity. If the inbox is quiet, revisit it as new conversations appear or try one focused signal change.
Keep post and comment signals intentional
Posts and comments can need different keyword choices:
- Post keywords are useful for broad questions and new conversations.
- Comment keywords can target more specific needs that appear inside an ongoing thread.
Use the separate settings to experiment with this distinction. If a phrase finds useful comments but noisy posts, keep it focused on comments rather than removing it everywhere.
Use competitors and SEO with a clear purpose
Competitor and SEO settings are separate from your post and comment keyword rules.
- Add competitors when you want market insight, comparison context, and buyer language—not simply more volume.
- Use SEO keywords for search-visible Reddit threads where a useful response can remain valuable over time.
Review these inboxes with the same quality standard: could your team genuinely help in this conversation?
Repeat a simple tuning loop
- Review a batch of new opportunities.
- Record the pattern behind the good and poor matches.
- Make one focused change to project context, keywords, or block rules.
- Review the next batch with that change in mind.
- Keep, refine, or reverse the change based on the quality of the results.
AI summaries and relevance scores can help prioritize the work, but they do not replace your judgment. The goal is not the highest possible volume or score; it is a steady inbox of conversations where you can contribute real value.
